As the temperature outside drops, we take precautions to keep ourselves warm - we shut windows, close off rooms in the house, get the heater out.

  • Check any aquarium heaters to ensure they're still heating the water to an adequate temperature.
  • Use a thermometer to monitor water temperatures.  Check it regularly.
  • If you don't already have a heat source for tropical fish then you'll need one.
  • For Betta or Siamese fighters - a small submersible heater is a must - or a heat mat  for smaller bowls.
  • Don't move the fish bowl close to a heat source or near an open fire, or to a warm kitchen - use other methods to keep the water at a nice, even temperature.
  • Keep up regular maintenance and cleaning routines.

And don't forget a bit of winter re-decoration to spice up the season!
