Albino (Golden) Tiger Barb


A golden body colour is a feature of the albino strain, making a nice contrast to the dark banded wild form. Tiger Barbs are best kept in a school of 6 or more. Do not keep with fish with long flowing fins such as Angels or Guppies, as the barbs may nip their fins. Grows to about 6-7cm.

Albino Red Oscar


Oscars have an aggressive nature, but given plenty of room and some rocks or driftwood for other fish to hide amongst, they will happily share a tank with American cichlids of similar size. Heavy feeders, Oscars prefer bulky foods such as pellets or live fish and usually grow to 20-30cm. Originally native to South America, a number of different aquarium strains exist, including the Albino Red.

Bolivian Butterfly Cichlid


This very peaceful dwarf cichlid is ideal for any planted community aquarium housing species such as tetras and gouramies. Native to Bolivia and Brazil, nowadays most stock in the aquarium trade is commercially farmed. Bolivian Butterflys grow to about 8cm, both sexes are very similar in appearance. Most standard aquarium foods are eaten, but they also appreciate regular feeds of live or frozen foods.

Bristlenose Catfish


Bristlenose are very popular algae eating catfish, hardy and undemanding, they adapt to most aquarium conditions. Mature males are easily identifiable by their distinctive bristles. They will spawn readily, the orange eggs are usually laid under a rock and guarded by the male until they emerge as a small replica of the adults. Grows to about 10-12cm.

Cardinal Tetra


Cardinals are native to the Amazon basin in South America and occur in two distinct populations. Firstly, the most prolific location is around Manaus in central Brazil, primarily in the Rio Negro and its tributaries. The second distinct population is in Columbia in the Rio Meta and its tributaries. Most supplies to our trade are from wild-caught fish and as such the supply is regulated by flooding and other natural phenomena. Cardinal tetras are a peaceful fish preferring soft & slightly acid water.

Clown Loach


Clown loach are native to creeks and streams in Borneo and Sumatra. Supplies to the trade are still harvested from the wild and as such supply can tend to be erratic at times. Clown loach grow to a massive 30cm and are truly magnificent aquarium fish at all sizes. They are also useful in helping to control unwanted snails in the aquarium.

Ghost Knife Fish


Black Ghost Knife Fish are one of the most interesting freshwater aquarium fish with their unique behaviour and swimming pattern. Quite suitable for community aquaria, they prefer having several cave-like hiding places. Water conditions are not critical; a pH about neutral and moderate hardness is fine. Will eat most foods, but they relish live blackworms.

Glass Catfish


Glass catfish prefer to eat aquatic crustaceans and worms; this diet can be replicated with live blackworms and frozen bloodworms in captivity although dry food will be accepted when the fish are acclimatised. Glass Catfish should be kept and displayed in schools.

Julii Cory - Corydoras Julii


Also known as the Leopard Catfish, the Corydoras Julii is native to Peru, Brazil and Ecuador. They grow to a maximum size of about 6 cm and behave similarly to the more familiar Bronze, Albino and Pepper corydoras. Stock supplied to Australia is both bred in captivity and wild caught.

Lemon Tetra


Lemon Tetras are one of the many small peaceful tetras, ideal for the community aquarium. They like plenty of open swimming space with some plant thickets for security. Feeding colour-enchancing foods rich in natural carotenoids will help promote their body colour, it can be yellow to almost orange in optimum conditions. These fish grow to 4-4.5cm.

M lombardoi (Kenyi) Cichlid


A very popular Malawi Cichlid, the Lombardoi are bright blue with dark banding from a very young age. Adult females keep the same appearance, whereas the males gradually transform into a glowing golden-yellow. Lombardoi are very active and can be territorial, so provide a few hiding places.

Molly


Mollies are a very popular group of livebearing aquarium fish, very active, peaceful, easy to care for and easy to breed. Mainly vegetarian, Mollies have very healthy appetites and should be fed at least 2-3 times per day. They will eat most standard fish foods, but have a preference for vegetable based foods, they also enjoy grazing on any green algae growing in their aquarium.

Neon Tetra


Neon Tetras are easily the most popular of all tropical fish with their amazing colour and peaceful schooling nature. They prefer soft slightly acidic water, and water temperatures about 20-24 C, but can tolerate other conditions as long as extremes are avoided. They look great at any time, but particularly when kept in planted aquaria in large schools. Do not keep them with large fish, as Neons only grow to about 3.5cm to 4cm.

Peacock Cichlid


Peacocks are relatively peaceful fish that can be kept either on their own, or in a community of similar sized Malawi Cichlids. In their natural habitat, most Peacocks are smaller than 10cm (a few types may reach 13cm). Captive fish, fed a good diet in aquaria, generally exceed these sizes. Some males may grow to 15cm or more (females remain smaller).

Platy


Platies are small livebearing fish that are immensely popular as aquarium fish - they are colourful, peaceful, breed readily and are very easy to look after. Native to Mexico and neighbouring Belize, wild Platies are rather plain in colour, usually olive with some blue or green iridescence, sometimes with red or dark markings.
